			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>HAYWARD, California</strong> – June 28, 2011- Seven students from the Eden Area Regional Occupational Program traveled to Kansas City, Missouri on June 22, 2011 to participate in the 47<sup>th</sup> annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLCS) where they excelled in the Crime Scene Investigation, Criminal Justice, and Culinary Arts competitions to place third, fifth, and twelfth, respectively, out of over 5,600 students, who were already gold medalists in the State championships.</p>
<p>In the Criminal Justice Investigation competition, Team F consisting of Travis Escorcio (Post Secondary), Allyson McKeever (Castro Valley High School), and Jessica Miranda (Post Secondary) received bronze medals for their expertise. The three person team was given a crime scene where they had to search, collect, and remove evidence to properly process a crime scene and at the end, prepare a report of their analysis.</p>
<p>The Criminal Justice team competed to finish in fifth place by competing in both a written examination and practical exercises to evaluate the contestants&#8217; knowledge on the U.S. Constitutional Law and being an entry-level law enforcement position. This Criminal Justice team consisted of Omar Pacheco (Tennyson High School), Perla Robles (Castro Valley High School), and Edgar Valdiosera (Castro Valley High School).</p>
<p>Zachary Dyer (Royal Sunset High School) placed 12<sup>th</sup> in the nation to showcase his knowledge and skills in the Culinary Arts contest on the preparation and presentation of a four-course menu. The competition requires students to test their skills in not only food quality and flavor, but also cooking techniques, organization, creative presentation, and sanitation food safety.</p>
<p>The SkillsUSA Championships is a national-level championship for public high school and college/postsecondary technical students enrolled in career and technical education programs where they compete in over 94 hands-on skill and leadership contests. The week-long event consisted of over 15,000 students, teachers, and business partners in the country.  SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled work force.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Castro Valley Car Show: Saturday, September 10, 2011</p>
<p>In an effort to support our local youth, the Castro Valley Car Show  committee unanimously agreed to designate proceeds from the car show to  purchase necessary equipment and supplies for the Eden Area ROP  Automotive Technology Program.</p>
<p>Juniors and Seniors attending High  School in the Castro Valley, Hayward, San Leandro and San Lorenzo  Unified School Districts are eligible to attend this exceptional  automotive training program provided by Eden Area ROP.  Students and  instructors from the ROP Automotive Technology Program will be at the  car show to meet and greet participants and explain their program and  its educational value.</p>
<p>In addition to the Automotive Program, the  director of Eden ROP, Craig Lang, has generously offered the assistance  of three other program instructors and students to assist in the  safety, coordination of events and food for the Castro Valley Car Show.</p>
<p>The  Criminal Justice Program instructor John Taylor and his students will  provide security, safety and assist with the logistics of registration  and directing participants upon entry to the car show.</p>
<p>The  Culinary Program instructor Michael Schibler and his students will make  available a selection of continental breakfast type foods for the early  morning crowd and will be preparing a lunch menu for all to enjoy.  We  hope all our participants will support their program and their  contribution to the car show by purchasing food and drinks from them.</p>
<p>The  Events and Floral Program instructor Renee Rivera and her students will  work with the committee to coordinate the layout of the event,  including the Vendor Area and a Participant Area where tables and chairs  will be available for all participants enjoyment.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On Thursday May 5, 2011 Eden Area ROP was presented with Resolutions from Senator Ellen Corbett and Assembly Member Mary Hayashi for 40 years of service in Career Technical Education. Representatives from Assembly Member Hayashi and Senator Corbett’s office presented Dr. Irene Fujii, Superintendent, and the Eden Area ROP Governing Board, (Hermy Almonte-San Leandro Unified, Luis Reynoso-Hayward Unified, Janice Friesen-Castro Valley Unified and Isabel Polvorosa-San Lorenzo Unified), with resolutions recognizing Eden Area ROP for the dedication and work it has done with students in the Castro Valley, Hayward, San Leandro and San Lorenzo school districts.</p>
<p>Eden Area Regional Occupational Program (Eden Area ROP) was founded in 1971 and originally served Castro Valley, San Leandro, San Lorenzo districts. The primary purpose of the California’s ROC/P was to create a career educational delivery system that would serve all students, regardless of the geographic location of their residence or their school district of attendance.  In 1991 Hayward Regional Occupational Center joined with Eden Area Regional Occupational Program to serve students from all four school districts. Eden Area ROP currently serve seven  high comprehensive, four continuation school, four continuation high schools, private schools, charter schools and numerous alternative schools and programs.</p>
<p>The resolutions recognize Eden Area Regional Occupational Program for 40 years of preparing high school and adult students for further education as well as to instill skills, workplace, attitudes and knowledge that will enable them to compete in a technology advanced and ever-changing economy. The resolutions also note that they contribution that Eden Area ROP has made to the local area is invaluable and reflect an organization devoted to the highest ideals of service to the community. Finally stating that Eden Area ROP should be commended on the celebration of its fortieth anniversary and the vital role is has played on improving the quality of life in the local community and extends best wishes for success in the future.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>During the weekend of April 28<sup>th</sup>-May 1<sup>st</sup>, Students from Eden Area Regional Occupational Programs’ (ROP) four school districts attended the 44<sup>th</sup> Annual State Leadership Conference and SkillsUSA Championships, where students from all over California came to compete in San Diego. Students from Eden Area ROP competed in the Culinary Arts, Criminal Justice and Forensic Science, Graphics and Welding contests. Competitors were required to exhibit their skill and knowledge of the subject matter for their respective disciplines.</p>
<p>Eden Area ROP emerged victorious and brought home medals in the following competitions: Secondary Crime Scene Investigation Myiako Collins, Jordan Frietas and Kiara Lynch took Bronze,  Tatiana Tendencia, Cynthia Cervantes and Juan Bahena took Silver, Perla Robles, Edgar Valdiosera and Omar Pacheco took Gold;  Omar Pacheco and Allyson McKeever took Gold in the Criminal Justice Division; Zachary Dyer took Gold in Culinary Arts; and Jene Ford took Silver in Graphics.</p>
<p>SkillsUSA is a national organization for high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. SkillsUSA serves as a forum for students to showcase their career and technical proficiency in a given discipline. The State Leadership Conference is an opportunity for Gold medal winners for every region to compete and move on to the National Level. The National Leadership and Skills Conference will return to Kansas City, Kansas once again from June 19-June 24, 2011.</p>
