INDUSTRY RECOGNITION
ASCCA TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION RECONGITION NIGHT
The Automotive Service Councils of California, Chapter 16, the Chabot College Foundation, and Chabot College Automotive Technology held its Career Technical Education (CTE) Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 11, 2010.
During the event they recognized colleges, high schools, and regional occupation programs (ROP) that are producing future Automotive Technicians. Students in the Machine Tool and Welding programs were also included for recognition.
ROP Students Prepare Pasta Feast
On March 11, 2010 Eden Area ROP held its second Pasta Feast of the 09-10 school year. The Pasta Feast is a fundraiser for students to attend the SkillsUSA State competition, which will be held this year in San Diego, CA. Thirty-one students won Gold Medals at the SkillsUSA regional competitions that were held last month at the Eden Area ROP and in Salinas. These 31 hopefuls are looking to take on the competition and once again bring home the gold at the state competitions. The Culinary Arts departments did a good job preparing all of the pastas for the feast. Other skills students from the Criminal Justice,
Auto Tech, Culinary and Construction programs were in attendance to greet parents, families and friends to the event.
Business Department
The Business Department, in an effort to take steps toward becoming paperless has introduced a user-friendly purchase order form. The form was designed to self populate several fields and perform calculations for the end user. We have completed a one-year cycle of using the new form and have achieved an 85% usage rate by participants.
In addition, the financial system has been converted to Escape Online 5, effective the first week in February. In anticipation of the conversion, all of the business office participated in a month of training. We used the opportunity to cross train staff, so that in the event of absences, we could continue to provide high quality services.
Escape Online 5 is substantially user friendly and gives us the ability to create more comprehensive reports. It is a goal of the Business Department in the forthcoming year to eliminate paper requisitions, purchase orders, receivers, and invoices. The new system offers several modules that we plan to implement in the near future; for example – fixed assets and stores.
